About HikeList
Hey — I’m Adam, and I created HikeList because I couldn’t find what I was looking for.
I’ve always loved long-distance hiking. Every year, my brother and I try to meet somewhere in the world for a week or two on the trail together. After we wrapped up a recent trek to Everest Base Camp in Nepal, we started planning the next one. But as we sat there trying to choose our next adventure, I realised something: there’s no central, filterable, well-organised database for long-distance, waymarked hikes.
Sure, there are plenty of apps for day hikes, GPX tracks, or social sharing — but not one site that helps you research and compare multi-day trails when you’re still in the planning phase.
So I decided to build it.
What HikeList Is
HikeList is a growing directory of long-distance, officially waymarked hikes from around the world. Think of it like TripAdvisor, but specifically for thru-hikes and walking holidays — whether you’re looking for a two-day taste of long-distance walking or a month-long pilgrimage.
The goal is to make the research phase of planning a hike much easier:
- Compare trails by country, region, distance and duration
- Read real reviews from hikers who’ve walked the trail recently
- Find the hike that matches your time, energy and experience level
I personally research each route we feature, and use a mix of human curation, machine learning, and community reviews to keep things accurate and up to date.
What HikeList Isn’t
HikeList isn’t trying to compete with AllTrails, Gaia GPS, or other GPS-first platforms. You won’t find every path, shortcut or summit scramble here — just well-marked, multi-day trails that are officially recognised and maintained.
No backyard loops. No unmarked bushwhacks. Just honest-to-goodness long walks worth taking.
Help Us Grow the Trail Library
One of the best ways you can support the project is by leaving a review of a hike you’ve done. Real-world, recent feedback helps future hikers know what to expect, where to stay, what to pack — and whether a trail is right for them.
HikeList is just getting started with routes in the UK and Europe, but the goal is to eventually cover every country with great long-distance hiking.
A Bit About Me
I run a web publishing business in the graphic design niche, and I’m lucky enough to work remotely from Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand — where I hike in the mountains and jungles most weeks. I fell in love with the idea of long-distance walking as a teenager, after reading Clear Waters Rising by Nicholas Crane.
Since then, I’ve walked trails across Europe, the Himalayas, the UK, and beyond.
This project is something I’m building for myself — and for anyone else who’s fallen in love with life on foot.
Thanks for stopping by, — Adam
